Ronald McDonald House Charities® - in the Bay Area and beyond.

RMHC of the Bay Area® is making a global impact on the most pressing problems facing families today. Our approach is to think globally but act locally by tailoring our programs to address the most urgent needs of each community we serve. With a network of local Chapters, our core programs are found in 52 countries and regions around the globe.

RMHC of the Bay Area

Locally, RMHC of the Bay Area is dedicated to helping children right here in our own backyard by granting funds to our core programs, the Ronald McDonald Houses, Care Mobiles and Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship Program, as well as other children’s programs.

RMHC of the Bay Area is building a brighter, more promising future for local children and families.

To date, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) – an international charity with a global network of 282 independent chapters in 33 countries – has awarded more than $420 million dollars in grants worldwide toward our mission to make an immediate and positive impact on as many children as possible.

Ronald McDonald House® at Stanford and Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco

RMHC of the Bay Area is an annual contributor to its cornerstone programs, the Ronald McDonald Houses at Stanford and the Ronald McDonald House in San Francisco. The Ronald McDonald Houses provide a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.

In the Bay Area, the two Ronald McDonald Houses serve a combined total of 250 families annually. Globally, 282 Ronald McDonald Houses serve over 600,000 individuals annually, supported by a network of 30,000 volunteers who donate three million hours of their time.

Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® Units of Santa Clara and Contra Costa Counties

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles provide immunizations and health screenings, oral health services, diagnosis and treatment of chronic disease and health education to children who would otherwise go without dental care.

The Bay Area’s first Ronald McDonald Care Mobile was launched in conjunction with Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in 2000, and has served the oral health needs of more than 7,000 children throughout Santa Clara County.

A second Ronald McDonald Care Mobile was launched in Contra Costa County in 2004, as a partnership of county organizations including John Muir Medical Center, La Clinica De la Raza, Brookside Community Health Center, Contra Costa Health Services, and RMHC of the Bay Area.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship Program®

Every year, RMHC of the Bay Area, with support from McDonald's Owner/Operators, McDonald's Corporation and RMHC Global distributes $150,000 in scholarships to area high school students from disadvantaged communities who face limited access to educational and career opportunities.

Since 2002, the Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship Program in the Bay Area has awarded more than $1 million to local deserving students. Branches of the scholarship include African American Future Achievers (RMHC/Future Achievers), Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources (RMHC/HACER), Asian Students Increasing Achievement (RMHC/ASIA), and the RMHC National Scholars Program.

Reaching Out Through Community Organizations

By creating, finding and supporting programs that directly improve the health and well being of children, Ronald McDonald House Charities is working to better the lives of children and their families around the world. To date, RMHC of the Bay Area has contributed more than $5 million locally in grants towards making an immediate, positive impact on those children who need our help most. We help support community organizations that are as diverse as the Bay Area itself. Recent programs supported in part by Ronald McDonald House Charities include:

World Children's Day®

Every year on November 20, participating McDonald’s restaurants will help raise funds for the RMHC of the Bay Area and other children’s programs through World Children’s Day, a McDonald's fundraising event. Bay Area McDonald’s® restaurants and their customers have raised approximately $580,000 since the first World Children’s Day fundraiser in 2002.

World Children’s Day at McDonald’s also raises funds and awareness for RMHC and other children’s causes both in local communities and around the world. This event takes place each year in more than 100 countries, and, to date, McDonald's and its customers have raised over $124 million for World Children’s Day.
